Areas of Practice
I dedicate my practice to family and domestic law. I really enjoy meeting with, counseling, and advocating for my clients. Family law is tough, but I find great satisfaction in helping a client succeed in difficult or complex circumstances so they can move forward in life. Specifically, I assist clients in the following areas:
Divorce, Separation, and Annulment cases which might include dealing with custody, child support, property and debt distribution, or alimony.
Paternity cases where unmarried parents deal primarily with custody and child support issues.
Adoptions by step-parents as well as couples.
Either prosecution or defense in Enforcement Actions when one party is accusing the other of not following a prior court order.
Modification actions in which a party is seeking to change prior court orders on issues such as custody, child support, or alimony.
Premarital agreements, common in situations where a person desires to protect their wealth or debt exposure.
Name Changes for either adults or minor children.
Consulting on any of the above case types where court action or formal settlement is premature or undesirable.
Philosophy and Approach
I understand that no one really wants to hire an attorney. But individuals involved in family law matters need good legal advice and always benefit from having an attorney. My first objective with every client is to inform and educate as to their legal rights and duties, then to discuss how we can reach their goals in the most optimal fashion. Some cases are able to be settled while others need to be heard by a judge. The client is always in control of which path to take.
One of people’s biggest concerns with hiring an attorney is the cost. While each case is unique, if your matter is uncontested, I offer a payment plan that avoids financial waste and a step-by-step approach as your case progresses. If we need to attend mediation or court, I offer competitive retainer prices and save costs by ensuring we take a focused approach in harmony with your objectives.
Your legal strategy will always be customized based on your goals and expected outcomes. If we need to go to court, I will advocate your side in a manner designed to get real results. When you hire me, you will get sound advice, quality representation, and reasonable fees.
Background, Education, and Licensing
I am a native of Utah County and understand the unique concerns and issues important to individuals in the State of Utah.
I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Brigham Young University, and thereafter attended Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School graduating with a Juris Doctor degree.
During law school, I was a member of the BYU National Moot Court team, a Lead Editor for the Journal of Public Law, and also served as a research assistant to renowned family law professor Lynn Wardle. These were all valuable experiences that have helped me as a practicing attorney.
I am licensed to practice law in Utah. Prior to joining Moody Brown, I practiced family law at Dexter & Dexter.
Personal Interests
When away from work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I love coaching youth sports, serving in my church, traveling whenever possible, and making to-do lists to keep me organized and on task.
An avid sports fan, I cheer loudest for BYU and the Utah Jazz. When I am really lucky, I find time to play the drums, enjoy a round of golf, or attend a concert.
